I will be leaving for a month trip to Europe in 11 days and I'm looking to buy a new pair of shoes for the trip. We will be spending 4 nights in Spain, 3 nights in Switzerland, 15 nights in Italy, and 7 nights in Greece. Generally, I like the style of tennis shoes/sneakers more. Any recommendations for new shoes that would be durable and comfortable for the amount of walking we will be doing is greatly appreciated!
I love my Brooks Ghost sneakers. If I’m traveling where it’s going to be warm, I put in my Keen Whispers. Just my favorites, everyone’s foot is different.
There is no such thing as the one best model of shoe that is objectively the best and only shoe that everybody "should" wear on a trip.
In Italy in 2017 I had a pair of Clarks votta edge shoes but they quit making that model - it was just a low end street shoe that wasn't water resistant.
When I went to Greece in 2018 and Spain in 2022, I wore Sketchers "outdoor" shoes which are or are supposed to be water resistant. At some point when the shoes looked like they were barely worn out, at home, I had to wash them, let them air dry, and sprayed them with waterproofing spray. Take the shoes and the spray can outside, inhale fresh air just before you start spraying, breathe out slowly for 30 seconds, spray for about 20 seconds and then hurry inside but leave the shoes on the porch to dry for a few minutes and then take them inside and wait a day before you wear them again.
I have also worn Colombia Fairbanks low hiking shoes and Trailstorm high hiking boots. Both have been durable, lightweight, and long lasting but like with the sketchers, the waterproofing wore off when the shoes looked barely worn out and i had to spray them with the waterproofing spray. The Trainstorm is heavier than the Fairbanks and keeps my feet warmer, which is good or bad depending on the outside temperature.
Try Oofos - Not the most attractive but my husband's swears they are like walking on clouds. Great if you have back or hip issues.
