Alegria Shoes

Has anyone worn Alegria clogs out on a trip walking city streets? I am desperately trying to find a comfortable pair for walking around town. We travel a lot and do a bunch of sight seeing and have been having foot pain. The Alegria ' s have super reviews but I don't know about the application I am looking at. Thanks for your input.

Hi Bob. While I haven't worn my alegria shoes on a RS trip yet I have been breaking them in to wear next fall. I bought two pair in different styles, one slip on, one tied shoe. The tied shoe fits like a glove while the slip on took me four different orders to get the right fit. No matter as they provide free returns and full credit unless it is a sale item. I did not buy clogs as I worried about them slipping off my feet. I wore a pair of Alegria clogs for years while teaching and they do come off easily.
While I love my Alegria Bree shoes, my favorite is the Keen Presidio. My husband bought the Austin's and raved about how they felt the first time he put them on. Some people think they are ugly but I think they're kind of cute and they feel fabulous; walked numerous miles hiking in the Smokies over rocks and tree roots and nary a slip or blister!
If you are having foot pain go to a specialty shoe store like Foot Solutions, have them take a foot imprint, and get some inserts to put into your shoes in place of the normal insoles. For around sixty bucks you can get a nice insert that will last six-nine months and you can put them into whatever shoes you are wearing. I have very high arches and can no longer wear regular shoes for more than a few hours and certainly not all day or I will end up with plantar fasciitis. I found little difference in my Foot Solution inserts at $60.00 vs. the $400.00 inserts from my foot doctor. Go figure. Both Zappos and Alegria have free returns so shop, shop, shop until you find your perfect pair! Good luck on your hunt.

I really think it depends on each persons feet. I have tried those and they are too wide and big for me. I wear either Cobb Hill by New Balance and Earth. I try to wear shoes on these trip pretty similar to what I normally wear. Other wise I am never comfortable with a type of shoe I only wear once on a trip.

This is not in any way related to the question you posed but I had Plantar Fasciitis and last fall managed 8 weeks in Europe without any problems. I took the MELT system balls by Sue Hitzman and rolled my feet to her specific instructions.

The Alegrias had been suggested by the shoe store where I got orthotics as they have a good foot bed and are mostly a zero drop platform. (No heel rise which can exacerbate foot issues.) I have also found and used a product called Correct Toes which are toe spacers instead of the expensive orthotics I got. I have used them for 6 months and can now walk barefoot on my wood floors at home which caused excruciating pain before. You do have to have a shoe with a wide forefoot to accommodate them and Alegrias would probably work.

Good luck. I hope they work for you. I agree about not wearing clogs on cobbles.

Not mentioned, but also comfortable for me are my Skecher's shoes. As a teacher I was on my feet all day and had to have something comfortable yet affordable.
The key is the sole insert. With that I can wear most any shoe with a removable foot-bed.
Because of my bad feet I was constantly buying shoes. I culled at one point and had over one hundred pairs. Also don't rule out cheap shoes lol. I had a pair of nice looking platform sandals from Shoes for Less that I bought on sale for $4.00 and I wore the hell out of those sandals for about three years!

An interesting note: When I started teaching I wore a size 7.5 shoe and when I retired I was wearing size 9.

On my first trip to Europe I wore a pair of white mountain climbers gs. They were awesome and handled cobblestones just fine.
