My husband and I want to explore the WWI sites around Ypres by car. Our preference is to do this with the help of a detailed guide book and map rather than hiring an actual guide. We've found several possible resources we could order online, such as the Holt Pocket Battlefield Guide, but, of course, we can't actually examine these prior to buying. Does anyone have any personal experience and advice on published references. Thanks.

If the book is available from amazon.com, you may be able to "Look Inside" before you buy.

If you don't decide 100% one way or the other beforehand, go to the TI in the Cloth Hall first when you arrive. They can provide any number of resources for your trip.
