Hello everyone! My husband and I will be visiting Belgium in late February, early March. We will be visiting: Bruges, Brussels, Ghent and/or Antwerp.
Unforuantely we will be doing Ghent/Antwerp and Brussels in one day and it falls on a Sunday. Do these cities shops and tourist areas tend to shut down on Sundays?
Thank you!
Many shops are closed on Sunday but is not obligatory, if open they can instead be closed during a day in the week. I think most fashion shops are closed in the places you mention, but are for instance open in Knokke. In tourisitic places like Bruges souvenir and chocolate shops are open on Sunday and some book stores too. Most bakeries are open on sunday till noon or early afternoon. Larger supermarkets for instance of Carrefour are open, but expect the smaller ones in the city centres to be closed.
I think the Neuhaus (my favorite) chocolate stores are closed on Sundays, but there are locations in other cities.
Zoe - Neuhaus in Bruges is open, but both shops in Ghent and the one in Antwerp are closed on Sunday. In Brussels not all are closed according the info I have.
My favourite chocolate shop - the best I have ever eaten anywhere - is open on Sundays. In Gent, across the square from the closed Neuhaus, at least it was yesterday.
You should do okay in those big cities. We were in Namur two Sundays ago, and we found that our dining choices were quite limited.
Almost all shops in Ghent are closed on Sundays, but museums and almost all restaurants are open. Souvenir shops are open.
Museums are usually closed on Mondays.
