Weekend Stopover in Belgium

I will be in London/Chertsey for the first two weeks of September for a business trip, with a Friday meeting in Rotterdam.

I have Friday night, Saturday and Sunday free - and I need to be back in Chertsey Sunday night for a meeting the next day.

I have enjoyed a few trips to London, Rotterdam and Amsterdam before, so I want to spend the weekend in Belgium (which I've never been).

I'd love to get this group's thoughts on spending one day in Bruges and one in Brussels - or should I stick with both days in one of them (and if so, which one?)

I love sightseeing, museums, chocolate, and beer - and would definitely plan to do some type of walking or bus tour.

I have Rick's Best of Europe book which has a few pages on Bruges - and I'm researching this site as well.

Thanks for the recommendations!

Both and also Ghent have wonderful things to see. They are close enough together to easily train between without losing much time. You could easily spend a day or 2 in either and have plenty to see and do. I believe Bruges is more of a weekend destination and Brussels has a lot of business and is a bit quieter for hotels on weekends. So this may affect weekend hotel availability/prices. We enjoyed both cities.
