Love Belgium, it is underrated, safer than traveling in the USA.
Stay in Ghent go to Bruges and Antwerp and Dinant if you can. They are all gems.
All the cities are well connected by train.

Welcome to the Travel Forum.
Bruges (Brugge), Ghent, and Brussels are popular destinations and the country is small enough that train travel doesn't take long between Belgium destinations. Some people also want to visit a WW1 battlefield, Flanders Fields battle sites can be done from Bruges on a tour, I liked the Quasimodo Tour.

Small and very historical Mechelen (aka Malines) is a good base if you want it more quiet and peaceful. Both Antwerp and Brussels are less than half an hour away on trains running every 10 mins or so.
