Transiting Brussels airport

My wife and I will be traveling from New York (JFK) to Rome in late October. We are flying Icelandair from JFK to Brussels, then flying Brussels Airlines from Brussels to Rome. We will need to collect our bags in Brussels and check in with Brussels Air. I assume that we will also need to go through passport control and security in Brussels. Our layover is 2 hours and 5 minutes. Is this time going to be adequate to do what we need to do, and still make our flight? My gut tells me it will not. Can anyone with a similar recent experience help?

Well you may make it of the first flight arrives on time; just be prepared to buy another ticket if you don't make it. There appears to be 8 direct flights to Rome on various airlines from Brussels. You should look at your options and be prepared to book online. Don't use a live person.

How did you end up end up in this situation with two separate tickets with just a 2 hour layover?
Whenever I have gambled with two separate tickets , I always give myself at least 3 hours to make it.

It was a cheap hacker fare. My mistake not reading the fine print (if there was any). I wasn’t aware of the airline change and self bag transfer until after I booked. A rookie mistake. I will get tickets on a later flight. I don’t want to take the chance. Thanks
