Senior Citizen Identification card

We will be traveling in Belgium and France. We would like to take advantage of senior discounts, but I don’t know how to get an official senior citizen Identification card!

Hi, and welcome to the RS travel forum.
What do you mean by “senior citizen identification card”? Why do you think you need such a thing to benefit from discounts for senior citizens? Your passport shows your date of birth, so you can use that to prove you’re eligible for a senior citizen discount.

I am assuming you are an American or Canadian? If so, your passport is your official ID in Europe.

We've encounterd a number of places that only extend the senior discount to citizens of that particular country. It certainly doesn't hurt to ask, but don't be surprised by rejection.

Passport or drivers license work. On only a very few occasions have I been asked for ID when asking for the concessions price.

I alway take the senior discount, and may even ask about it. But, I feel somewhat guilty seeing as I am well able to afford the regular price, being a tourist. And isn’t being a tourist about spending excess money as compared to so many others? Everyone on this forum is so able to afford the regular price. This is not the backpacker crowd.

I would hope that this forum is welcoming in tone to all budget levels and not assume that "Everyone on this forum is so able to afford the regular price."

Well, I ask for the senior discount at home, so why shouldn't I ask when I'm travelling, if I'm eligible? Sadly, I rarely need to ask. They take one look at me and, presto. I'm not sure why anyone would assume that everyone on this board is in the same economic bracket. The discount is for those over a certain age, not under a certain income level.

This summer at a couple of museums (Austria and the Netherlands) we had a ticket person ask if we might be of an age that would give us a discount. We said thank you for asking and yes we were afraid we were of that age and they happily gave us a discount. They didn’t ask for proof of age but we always carry our passports.
