Rotterdam to Kinderdijk - where to stay & tips on visiting

Hello everyone: You have been so helpful with planning this trip. I am continuing with questions.

After Amsterdam and Leiden/ Kuekenhof (4/14-24) we will train to Rotterdam on a Thursday (4/24), stay overnight, then take the Waterbus from the stop near the Erasmus Bridge to Kinderdijk. I would like this to go smoothly (without tight connections) so figure that staying in Rotterdam for the night before and after will be best. I;d like to avoid any logistical issues. Also, if the weather is beastly, Rotterdam will provide other options for a day of sight-seeing. Rotterdam is large enough that I don't know where to stay in order to easily access the Line 21 Waterbus and also be in a nice-ish part of the city. I appreciate all recommendations for lodging from those who have done this or who are familiar with Rotterdam.

Secondly, we won't be biking (and will watch to not be walking in a bike path) . We have read some good tips on the process of visiting Kinderdijk (Thank you, Pat & others) and would appreciate any additional advice. Feel free to private message if you think these requests for info are too specific for the broader forum. Thank you in advance, Susan

There are many hotels near the bridge. I stayed in the Mainport (it was business travel--I wasn't paying, but there are plenty more economical places nearby--Thon looks nice to me) and found it a nice area to walk around by myself while my husband worked.

Sorry, I just noticed you posted in Belgium instead of Netherlands--I think a moderator can move it for you.

Thanks so much for your info and for noticing that I posted on the wrong forum. I am planning a trip to both countries and am using both forums. Guess I'd better be more careful. The site won't let me re-post, but I've been in touch with the Rick Steves people and expect help soon.

Your info was helpful as I wasn't sure if the Erasmus Bridge was located within the neighborhoods of Rotterdam.

In April, we took the train from Delft to Rotterdam then tram to the Waterbus to Kinderdijk all on our half free day during a Rick Steve’s tour. And we got real lucky with the timing!. So you are golden staying in Rotterdam. The Watertaxi ride itself is interesting viewing, then kinderdijk is wonderful. If the weather is nice just walking the whole thing is marvelous. There’s a museum and a boat ride and a shuttle. A fun experience. Enjoy!

The Thon hotel is just steps from the water taxi. I think it’s either new or was recently renovated.

You can also look for a stay at the former ocean liner SS Rotterdam or Hotel New York, once the headquarters of the Holland-America Line. Both are at the southside of the Erasmus bridge and from both you can take a watertaxi to the terminal of the waterbus to Kinderdijk. The watertaxi and the waterbus are run by different companies, so having each their own webside. You have to book the watertaxi ride: https://www.watertaxirotterdam.nl/

As I am not so familiar with safety in that part of Rotterdam best is to contact the hotels in case you want to know more:
