hi guys i just need some advice i just arrived in antwerp, belgium and ill be here for a while so im looking for trails to go biking with my road rider (road bike) in the antwerp district but i dont enjoy riding in the city. im looking for a trail not far from antwerp that i could reach with my bike that is surounded by nature and of course has a nice road since im using a road bike not a mountain bike and hopefully not too crouded with cars since the idea is peace and quiet and a nice ride without having to constantly stop or move aside for the cars. i know im asking a lot since antwerp is not really the place for nature rides but i could really use some help.thanks
Try this website. Or go to just about any bookstore. They'll have plenty of cycling guides (you may have noticed by now how popular cycling is in Belgium...).
We do not have spectacular world famous nature here, nevertheless I hope you will like and enjoy places.
Popular are the many bike trails along the rivers upstream from Antwerp. The (former) wetlands around Bornem (south-west of Antwerp), like Klein-Brabant are well-known for making bike tours. In village Weert (Belgium, not the one in The Netherlands!) in the regional museum “De Zilverreiger” is a TI for info about bike itineraries. Lovely is nearby “Kasteel Marnix van Sint-Aldegonde” especially the view from the opposite river bank. Little passenger ferries make it possible to cross the rivers.
More and more roads in Belgium have seperate bike lanes, however the best are still found in The Netherlands. The walled city of Hulst some 30km west of Antwerp is worth a visit and the surrounding countryside offer enough possibilities for biking. You can combine it with a view over the Westerschelde at “Het Verdronken Land van Saeftinghe”, visits there only guided as the tide is very dangerous. Countryside roads have no seperate bike lanes!
You can also bike to Bergen op Zoom, north of Antwerp, look if it is possible to bike through Kalmthoutse Heide. Or exploring parts of the Delta Region depending the distances you like to cover.
