Reims, France to Bruges, Belgium

Please recommend the best way to travel from Reims, France to Bruges, Belgium?

Ideally, we would like to hire a driver; however, we aren't sure if that is an option.

Thanks for all of your suggestions.

Google Maps (which is not very precise) suggests that the drive is 3 hours, and the shortest train trip (via Paris) might be 3:30. That kind of car ride w/driver would be hundreds of Euros. They have to come back empty, after all. Because so many France destinations are "radial" from different train stations in Paris, your chosen journey is not, to put it blandly, efficient. Can you arrange your trip so that it is simpler?

For example, you could buy a open-jaw (multi-city) air ticket so that you fly into Paris and out of Brussels. That still leaves one long trip. But at least Brussels (which is not "next to" Bruges) is well-connected to Paris.

Maybe if you post your full itinerary, there might be a more practical solution. The usual answer on this newsboard is "take the train". But as I observed, this route is not easy by train.

92€ can't be right. Gas and tolls alone would cost about that, one way. Unless it's a price per person for X passengers?
In any case, it is not a complicated train ride. If you don't mind waking up early, there is a direct morning TGV from Champagne Ardenne TGV (outskirts of Reims, take a cab or the tram) to Brussels, when you change for a train to Bruges. Also one in the evening. And during the day, there is one or two connections thru CDG airport TGV station.

Cheapest will be Flixbus, but it's gonna take a while (probably about 7 hours).

You could try blablacar.com. It's an app where people sell seats. From Rheims to Brussels will be about 20 euro/person as you'll drive together with a local. Then take the train to Bruges.

If you're short on time I'd take the train for the whole trip. It's about 3h30.

Bruges is not "next door" to anything. This is not like taking an Uber home from a bar. You did not give your month of the year, but even in low season, commuting traffic in this part of Belgium is likely to affect many car journeys. But it is also true that the inexpensive, frequent, non-reserved trains between Brussels and Bruges can be very crowded at rush-hour and school-hour times. And they DON'T have "long-distance" luggage racks at the end of the cars. Have you planned your onward journey from Bruges?

I'm not against visiting Bruges, it just works better with some other popular nearby Belgian cities, or at least flying home from Amsterdam (if not Brussels.) I have been to Bruges twice, on the train from stays in Antwerp. I have never slept in Bruges, although many posters here liked that experience.

Reims isn't super connected, either. While I am not always fond of backtracking to Paris, it might be the easiest way if this is really what you want to do. I have found that a map of European rail routes often helps put things in context for me.

When is this ride scheduled for? Next spring or summer?

Going from Reims to Bruges is very straight forward, no problem at all with a little planning and knowing what to expect. You can be in Bruges by 16:00 hrs.

I would get the tickets prior, ie the night before in Reims or something like that .

If I were doing this, I would get up early, take the early train TER Reims to Paris Est, have lunch at Est, ie, the nice and spacious restaurant opposite of Est , walk over to Nord, all of which I am totally familiar with, take the next train with one change to Bruges.

Basically, be prepared to spend most of the day on the train arriving in the late afternoon in Bruges.

You could look into the option of flying (I would not, not at all interested), ie, Paris to Brussels to see what flights and schedules are available. Are you under a pressing time constraint?

When my wife and made that trip several years ago, we drove from Reims to Dinant through the Ardene. It was a beautiful ride.
We did not hire a driver. We had rented a car in Paris and used it to travel to Reims and then on to Brugge by way of Dinant, Namur, Brussels on our way to Amsterdam. We dropped the car in Amsterdam.
You can easily drive from Dinant to Brugge in a day even with stops along the way.

But only if you want to make this even more complicated...

Maybe this option: Rental car or hiring a driver from Reims to Lille, close to the Belgian border and from there the local train to Bruges. Train ride takes 1½h with a change in Kortrijk / Courtrai.

Otherwise I second Balso’s suggestion taking the direct highspeed train to Brussels and changing there to the intercity to Bruges, for instance in the evening. Booked well ahead prices are reasonable. For highspeed trains you have too book a seat like in an airplane, prices go up the later you do this.
