Public Transport, Brussels

Arriving Brussels Airport 8/14, hope to take train into the city ( I think to Brussels Zuid Midi) then Metro to Vintage Hotel, near Louis Station, 2 or 3 stops. Are the train and metro contactless (swipe credit card) or do you buy tickets? Or do both or either offer an app? TIA.

The metro is contactless. Tap a chip credit card or use your wallet when you go in and when you leave if I recall you do both. For the train - download the SNCB app and you can buy your ticket using it and show your QR code if required. Its very easy.

Yes, take the airport train to Brussels Zuid/Midi/South and then the metro to LouisE, not Louis - third stop. The metro station name confused me first, but I looked up the hotel. Louise, also referred to as Porte Louise, and the adjacent Avenue Louise, are a very well known part of Brussels, specifically for higher end shopping.

I don't think you need to tap off. A single fare is a flat fee of €2,10 and is not based on distance, as would be the case if you had to tap off. Every time you tap it rings up another fare. Check out the STIB/MIVB site to see for yourself.

Ooh, caveat - for the metro you need your card to exit, for the trams and buses you don't tap off. Some city stations like De Brouckere don't require a card to exit, there are just open gates as it's a busy station.
