Hi-
We'd like to take a day trip from Brussels to see Waterloo, but would like to do so with a knowledgeable tour guide. Emphasis on knowledgeable. I've read stories online from people who paid a lot of money for nothing more than a van ride and a bottle of water. Can anyone recommend a tour guide who can give us real insight into the history of Waterloo? Thanks in advance.
My advice would be to travel yourself (train+bus) to the meeting point on the battlefield and use the official 1815 guides.

When you contact them you must clearly state that you do not have a vehicle yourself (I have no idea what their capabilities are).
PS: the prices listed do not include entrance fees to the various museums.
I’d recommend taking the train from Brussels Central to Braine-l’Alleud (about 20 mins) and then catching a quick bus or taxi to the battlefield. This saves you from paying for a 'glorified taxi' from Brussels. Once there, hire a specialist from the Association des Guides 1815. They are the official battlefield historians and offer deep academic insight that generic van tours lack. Just be sure to tell them you are on foot so they can tailor a walking tour (focusing on the Lion’s Mound and Hougoumont). Note that their fee covers the tour only, so you’ll still need to buy the 'Pass 1815' for museum entry.
