Neigborhoods in Brussels

We are reserving on AirBnB in Brussels. Which section is preferred from the following three: Jourdan, Ixelles, Stalingrad. Thanks for comments, suggestions for booking an apartment.

"Jourdan" and "Stalingrad" aren't commonly used as neighbourhood names, but after finding them on a map here are my comments.

Jourdan - looks like this is in the EU area east of the city centre. Upmarket, busy, can be rather dull.

Ixelles - very large district south of the city centre with some interesting architecture in parts. Some very posh areas, some more downmarket. Check the exact address of the property and look on StreetView.

Stalingrad - area of the city centre around Boulevard de Stalingrad. Some very touristy bits, some that are among the worst neighbourhoods within the Pentagon. Be cautious and avoid anywhere that is too far out towards the Gare de Midi.

Just returned from Brussels and we stayed in an area of Ixelles called Place Flagey. It was walking distance to the Art Nouveau sites. Place Flagey also hosts a weekend farmers market and has one of the best pommes frites stands in Brussels according to yelp. It was good because I had to try it of course. By tram, its about 20-40 minutes to the Grand Place depending on traffic.

I stayed near Place Rouppe in the Stalingrad neighborhood and I found it fine. It did get a little dicey as I went toward Midi station but I only walked there once and it was during the day and had no problems. I probably wouldn't have felt so comfortable walking from Midi station to Place Rouppe late at night. The other direction from my hotel toward Grand Place and Central station was fine and I never felt it was not a decent area.
