I am going to be arrive in Brussels early on Jun 1st and leave late on the 2nd or early the 3rd (flexible). I am looking for a private local tour guide. Private meaning that I do not have to go thru the companies that are the middle men who post on the internet. I'd rather pay the individual guide what he/she is worth rather than an additional fee for the company. I have been able to do this in several other countries I have visited, but am having some difficulty making it happen in Belgium. Any help would be appreciated.
You might be able to do this through the tourist information centre in the Grand' Place - they used to have names of tour guides there. But it's been a long time since I have used a guide and that may all have changed. I would certainly contact them for advice.

Your hotel’s concierge might have some recommendations. We are staying at Hotel Amigo in mid May and have arranged through them a 3 hr combo historical walking and chocolate tour of Brussels.
lavandula> Thanks for idea. I checked and it does not look like they do that. BTW, Australia is on my bucket list to visit. When I don't have to buy the airplane to get there, we will visit. LOL
mhcharley> While I generally have no issues with paying for a first class hotel like the Amigo, this is a convenient, exploratory visit to Belgium in order to see if we want to make it a destiination in the future. But you have given me an idea for alternates methods of finding a guide. Thank you.
rmill.ace, you are most welcome here in Sydney, message me when you come. In case you don't find your private guide easily - in Brussels there are self-guided walks you can do from the tourist information centre - particularly the Comic Strip Trail (also known as the Comic Book Route). You should be able to get a map of this from the TI but you can check it out online first. Brussels is small and walkable.
Hope you find your guide in Brussels!
