Masculine senior citizens gift ideas

From your travels through Belgium what would you give a senior citizen heterosexual male friend as a souvenir gift?

Make it a consumable like chocolate. The last thing anyone needs in their later years is another tchotchke to display or take up cupboard space, or throw out when you leave.

I gave one older male relative (age 65) a T-shirt from a Belgium brewery I went to and he really liked that.

If you buy chocolate, check to make sure it does not need refrigeration. Some Belgium chocolates have cream in them, and need to stay cold. Also, if it's hot when you're going, consider that as well. The last thing you need is a box of chocolate goo in your luggage. :-)

You can give beer or chocolate to anybody, but a T-shirt for males of a Belgian beer brand or a soccer club as Mardee suggests is a good idea to my opinion. Moret souvenir shop at the Grand Place in Bruges sells T-shirts of Club Brugge, a soccer club playing in the national league as long as I can remember.

Edited: The sizes "of Club Brugge T-shirts" range from S up to 5XL, but are not cheap.

Sports team gear is a good recommendation, especially something soccer related if the person is a soccer fan. I would also say beer coasters from the various Belgian beer companies. They are everywhere and cheap, sometimes free.

If you will be in Bruges, try to get to Dumon. I think they have 2 locations now, but we went to the original one. Their chocolates are some of the best I've ever tasted. And I fully admit to being a chocoholic and a chocolate snob. The assortment we bought didn't even come close to making it home : P

In Bruges you can go to The Chocolate Line known for their quality and funny experimental gadgets like the shooter for sniffing up chocolate powder for a unique taste experience. Once originally made for a birthday party of the Rolling Stones. You can buy pralines with unusual taste combinations and shapes, so worth at least a look. They have a shop in Antwerp too.

This weekend I am giving my mom her Mother’s Day gift of chocolate I brought her from The Chocolate Line in Belgium. I can’t believe I refrained from eating it since I got back to the US two days ago. The chocolate is amazing, is award winning and definitely has lots of items that appeals to males. It’s a really unique shop. And delicious!

We once bought my father-in-law chocolate tools from La Belgique Gourmande in the Galeries de St-Hubert in Brussels. They are dusted in cocoa and look exactly like rusty metal tools from the shed. Sadly they broke so they didn't look so perfect when we got home but he (and we) could still see the effect.

The chocolate tools are cool. Usually they are coated with cocoa powder which makes them look weathered.
