We are leaning towards 2 nights Bruges and 1 night Brussels. How would you split your time and why?
Coming from and going to where? And do you prefer nightlife or having the city to yourself (and other tourists) after dinner?
Decided to go with 2 nights in Bruges and 1 night in Brussels.
I'm interested in your advice, Tom! My husband and I are planning on going from Amsterdam to Brussels for 3 days, then going to Paris. But now I am considering splitting our 3 days in Brussels with Bruges. I love history and walking around to see sights, but we also love nightlife, eating/drinking, etc. What proportion of time do you suggest, and which to go to first if you're coming from Amsterdam?
Good choice Scott! You will love Bruges. It lights up at night, and the reflections in the water are just magical.
Alexandra, if you want nightlife, stay in Gent and visit Brugge as a daytrip. The old center of Brugge is kind of dead after dinner. Gent has a large student and recent graduate population, so things tend to be a bit more lively there.
Scott, I just got home Saturday after 3 nights in Bruges and 1 in Brussels (as my flight back to the US was there....had been in London for 2 weeks before all this). With your plan, like mine, you will thoroughly do Bruges, a lovely historic town of small size, and then get a taste of a huge city, Brussels. So I think your plan is fine.
