Staying in Bruges a few nights in December for Winter Glow, need to stay closer to the Brussels airport the last night for early flight back to the US. Any suggestions for hotels a short train ride from the airport? Looking for a clean, quiet, safe place with a restaurant option nearby. Thank you!

There's a Hilton right on top of the Central Station—sounds like that would fit the bill.

It's actually pretty easy to stay at one of the hotels near Central Station and take the train to the airport in the morning. There are several just a block downhill from the station, between the station and the Grand Place. I know there's a Novotel and an Ibis, plus several others. Look at Google Maps and click on the hotels button to see the options. In this area you will have your choice of restaurants very close to the hotel. The area is normally busy in the evening, so I have always felt safe walking around. Head for the nearby covered Galeries St. Hubert if it's raining, as it contains many restaurants and shops.

We stayed at Hôtel La Légende at Rue du Lombard 35. It’s an average hotel and adequate for a night. It’s close to the central train station, Gland Place, and close to the Manneken Pis statue.

I guess you do not really give a time, but as others said, staying in central Brussels is not that far, for that matter, believe it or not, Antwerp is almost as handy, just a direct 30 minute train ride away. Antwerp also has a very nice Christmas Market along the river as a bonus, and full of wonderful restaurants.
