Hotel La Legende, Brussels

Thanks to the Rick Steve's guide for a great hotel recommendation.....Hotel La Legende. Recently I arrived in Brussels after a long flight from Florida - but my bag did not. The next day when the airport called to say that they had the suitcase, they added that they were so behind that they could not deliver it for two days. Well, Hotel Le Legende proprietor, Sophia, took over - put me in her personal automobile, drove me all the way back to the airport, paid for parking, showed me how to get back into baggage without a boarding pass and waited the 30-40 minutes it took me to stand in line to pick up my suitcase. When I came out with it in tow, she put me back in her car and drove me on to the train station for the next segment of my trip. Sophia was OUTSTANDING. My repeated efforts to reimburse her for her time, expenses , etc, were met with a pleasant smile and a firm NO. I've never received such amazing Customer Service from any establishment -- wonderful experience. Thank you Sophia - you are the BEST!

Sophia is a gem, as is her husband Michel. And the hotel has some of the most original decor in its rooms in all of Europe. Stay there if you're going to Brussels.

I'm glad you had a good experience. We had a B&B owner come through for us in a special way in our recent vacation, and that made a big difference to us.

Our experience with Hotel La Legend a few years ago was not so pleasant. There seemed to be no sound insulation between our room and the next one. We could hear people have ordinary conversations. One night there was a baby that cried all night. Another night we could overhear a couple engaged in what one might call an earlier stage of parenting. We also thought that the breakfast was subpar--not bad, as such, but lacking in the variety of choices one usually has at hotels (even small ones).

Another straw in the wind.

I liked the location of La Legende when we stayed there in March, and felt the lobby area was fine. I felt our room and hotel in general was in need of some renovations. With a little work the hotel could be outstanding.
