Ghent tomorrow

Hey guys,

We are in Ghent tomorrow. I first plan on doing the Rick walk and sites on the walk. I have a couple of beer places from Stu Stewart as well. Does anyone have places to eat/drink/or visit? We are there for two nights please great experiences.

Grab some waterzooi at one of the restaurants on the Graslei or Korenlei. Mainly for the view of one the most scenic corners of Belgium.

My wife and I were in Ghent in May and really enjoyed the Dr. Guislain Museum on the history of psychiatry. It includes wonderful exhibitions of the art of the mentally-ill along with 'art brut' or outsider art. Enjoy Ghent!

Jeremy,

Every time we are in Ghent we go to de Dulle Griet (Vrijdagmarkt 50). It is just a few minutes walk from the historic center. There's a huge selection of beer in a characteristic old pub setting. It is known for a basket and pulley system that is used if you drink one of their beers from one of their large fancy glasses. Due to the high value of the glasses (at least in their opinion), You have to give up one of your shoes and they place it in the basket, pulling up to the ceiling, and ring a bell.

The other bar we tended to go a lot to was Het Waterhuis aan de Bierkant, which is right on the river across from the Marriott. Service is slow but the setting is great and the huge beer list is also awesome. Cheers.

Also for a drink: ’t Galgenhuisje (Groentenmarkt), very small, see if there is a place. Trollenkelder - Bij Sint Jacobs and Pakhuis in an alley behind McDonald’s. De Oude Vismijn overlooking the river Leie and De Foyer (theatre), a little terrace overlooking the place between the Belfry and the Cathedral.

Vooruit is a well known cultural centre with a café, but a bit outside the historical centre.
