Ghent-Antwerp-Amsterdam

I am looking to take the train, leaving Ghent in the morning, getting off in Antwerp for a few hours and then bvck on the train to Amsterdam later that day.. Do I need to but 2 separate tickets (Gh-Ant and Ant- AMS) or can I buy a ticket Ghent to Amsterdam and hop off/on the train in Antwerp?

That route requires at least a change in Antwerp anyway so as long as you are not using Thalys from Antwerp to Amsterdam you can just buy the ticket the same day the price stays the same. You can get off and get back on as long as you are not using Thalys.

Just buy the tickets separately so you are not confused and do not use Thalys

That's right: buy a ticket Gent-Amsterdam using the Intercity service. That is an unreserved train, running every hour from Antwerpen to Amsterdam (starting in Brussels), with your ticket valid for all trains running that day.

Thanks to you both.. I assume the best is to buy the ticket at the Ghent station that day rather in advance.. Correct

thanks again

Pay attention to whether any of your options might require a change in Brussels, if you care about that.
