Flanders Fields from Brussels?

We will be traveling to Brussels in September, staying 4 nights in the central city. During the stay we are interested in making two day trips. Is it practical to visit Flanders Fields from Brussels in a day trip? And if so, do you need a car or can it be done with public transit? A day trip to Antwerp or Bruges looks straightforward but Flanders Fields seems a little more difficult.

If you make use of an organized tour you can go by train to the pick-up point, so no car needed. But you have to get up early as the tour starts in the morning, get in contact about details. Considering attending the daily Last Post Ceremony in Ypres at 8pm.

As most places are remote you need a car to get to it. It gives you more flexibility what to visit or not. But you must prepair the tour by yourself and be quiet informed well not to miss any. You can adjust plans and decide for instance going to places in Northern France as well.
