Dining options in Brussels

We will be in Brussels this weekend and it happens to be our anniversary on Sunday. Most of the restaurants in the RS guidebook are closed on Sunday. Any suggestions for a nice restaurant (nice = nice atmosphere, quieter rather than louder, not a tourist trap, solid food)? Many thanks in advance for ideas.

Well, I don't know you or where you are staying, and there seems to be a lot riding on the choice of restaurant, but I have a few suggestions. Congratulations, by the way, an anniversary is always worth celebrating :) .

You could check out Le Marmiton, which is a French/ Belgian restaurant in the Galeries Royales de St.-Hubert. It's a nice setting, and I think at night the noise won't overwhelm you, but it is a fairly heavily touristed area (the arcade, I mean). So read your reviews and check out the pictures. It would suit you if you are staying in the centre-ville and you just wanted to walk somewhere from your hotel.

Another place which speaks to your 'solid food' is Skievelat in the Sablons area. It's Belgian food, more hearty than elegant, and might be a little more bustling than Le Marmiton, but I think you could enjoy an evening there, although it is popular so might be a little noisier. It's also within walking distance of the centre-ville. Again, check it out, photos (for example on Trip Advisor) will tell you about the food there.

I was also going to suggest cocktails on the roof of The Hotel, which is close to the Louise district, so maybe a metro ride or a taxi ride away. There are good views and it is a sophisticated experience, but not a gentle walk from the centre. If you went there first, you could then move onto Les Petits Oignons, near the Sablons district, which is a nice restaurant too, and off the beaten tourist path.

I expect others will want to contribute here, hope you find what you are after.

I really appreciate your taking the time to respond. These look like "solid" options (I'm not sure what I mean by that word either!). I will check them out more closely. And thank you on the anniversary - it's our 40th!
