We are flying out of Brussels main airport (BRU) very early during May and would like to a cheap hotel room the night before flying. Hotels near BRU are not addressed in Rick Steve guide book. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Does your budget include a taxi, or is the flight sooooo early that you have to be on-airport? (Some off airport hotels don't have shuttles before 5AM.) We last stayed in Leuven for a morning flight, but we had a car. Leuven is exceptionally close to BRU. BTW, our big-name car rental return was unattended at that hour.
Edit: Leuven is a very attractive one-day visit, so you don't waste your last afternoon and evening. There is even a nice Beguinage..

Even without a car, Leuven is a very quick train ride to the airport. Otherwise, there's a cluster of chain budget hotels right outside the airport, most of which provide a shuttle. But the environs couldn't possibly be more charmless.

It sounds strange, but you might try the EuroVolley hotel. It is a volleyball practice center 5 minutes from BRU that also rents rooms to non-sporty people. It is simple, but rooms are clean, breakfast included, elevator, and à bar that serves simple meals. It is cheap considering the proximity to the airport, and I hâve always felt safe there on my own. The hâve a shuttle but I don't know the hours. Last time there I took à taxi to the airport and it wasn't too expensive since the distance was short.

Just booked a room at the Sheraton Brussels Airport Hotel for one night in July for $115 through the British Airways website since we are flying BA. The hotel is just across the airport.
