Brussels- Where to stay?

Hello! This will be my first time traveling to Europe and I'm looking for any recommendations on which area to stay in Brussels? Any recommendations for airbnb or hostels that you have heard good reviews about! There will be 3 females staying together so we are looking for something safe and clean! We will be staying for 1 day/night!

If you are only staying for one day, I wonder if you are visiting other cities nearby. You might care to read some past posts here (Search box top center) suggesting that one can daytrip by unreserved local trains and get to stay in the same place for a few days. University towns like Gent and Leuven might have cheaper housing and meals than Brussels, which I don't find as attractive, anyway. Certainly, there are must-see museums in Brussels.

I stayed at Hotel A La Grande Cloche as a solo female traveler in Brussels. Not a hostel or airbnb but a clean, safe, well located, budget hotel. It's midway between Brussels Central and Midi train stations and a couple of blocks walk to the Grand Place.

We stayed at Hotel la Legende for one night in May. A couple blocks from the central train station, Grand Place, and Mannekin Pis statue, and across the street from Mary chocolatier. Nice location and it was reasonably priced, safe, and clean, but could use some renovations. In my opinion, other than the Grand Place area, Brussels has little to offer and isn’t one of my favorite cities.

If you have only one day I would stay fairly centrally near the Grand Place as suggested. The areas close to the Nord and Midi stations, and the Molenbeek area across the canal just west of the city centre, are best avoided.
