Brussels to Brugge

Hi

I will be arriving brussels on 29th March Morning and I will be intending to travel to Bruges for a day trip. Can i know what is the most cost effective mode of transport (should i take guided tour or train by myself) and what can i do in Bruges for a day?

Many thanks for the kind help in advance :)

The trip is dead easy. There's no advanced booking discount or reservation for domestic trains in Belgium, so you can just book a ticket when you want to travel. Trains to Bruges stop at all three major stations in central Brussels, including Nord.

For what to do in Brugge, what are you interested in? Art, open spaces, canals, beer?

Hey Phillip

Is it to say that i can arrive at CCN,Gare du Nord and grab a ticket and hop on a train any time? So, there is no incentive to purchase tickets earlier i suppose?

I am interested in canal tours, beer and immersing myself in the culture in Bruges. What are the must visit places in Bruges? Also, where can i find good food around in Bruges/Brussels? What do you recommend?

Thank you for your help! :)

Exactly. Trains leave about every half hour, and tickets are vaild all day long.

"Also, where can i find good food around in Bruges/Brussels? What do you recommend?" If you want to splurge on one of Belgium's 3 star Michelin restaurants, go for De Karmeliet. But you'll need to dress appropriately, and it's location is outside the usually tourist zone. Within the tourist zone, I've found most of the restaurants interchangeable. But good.

Hey Phillip

Thanks for the clarification. In that case, i shall not get my ticket in advance. Can i know what are the 'must visit' places in Bruges? Boat tours or something? Anywhere that i can take nice scenic photos that represents Bruges?

Thanks :)

Several churches are beautiful, you can see Michelangelo's Madonna in Brugge, eat a lot of chocolate and waffles, drink great beer (love the cherry lambic), walk around the old town with many squares, take a canal boat ride or the city bus tour. Go to the Beguinage near the Horse Fountain. Brugge has many tea houses where you can get a typical Belgian light lunch or dinner. The day will go quickly.
