We end a photo tour that includes Lisse and Brugge, ending in Brussels. We have four days to make our way back by train to Amsterdam. What cities are recommended? Is Delft worth visiting for a day?
Mechelen, Antwerp, Rotterdam, Delft, The Hague, Haarlem, and Utrecht can all be more-or-less on your way, depending on how you do it, and are all worth a visit. I love Delft.
You could look at the Rick Steves Holland and Belgium tour itinerary, which covers the regions you are interested in. There are suggestions of things to do and see.
Antwerp is worth a couple days, Delft is tiny and a few hours there could be followed by going to The Hague
as they’re just 10 minutes apart by train. Utrecht is another great place worth a couple days.
Leiden (actually I prefer it to Delft) close to Lisse is certainly to recommend and in Dordrecht you can take the waterbus to the mills of Kinderdijk. Dordrecht is much overlooked but very lovely too.
Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. Now back to figuring out the trains and times!
