Brussels Midi: Is 15 mins enough to transfer from Eurostar exit to plat 4 for Germany?

Hi train travellers! In June we'll arrive in Brussels Midi at 12.05 from London and need to catch the 12.25 from Platform 4 to German stations. Deutsche Bahn says it's enough time, but we have several onward connections and want to be sure! Does anyone have direct experience?

And does anyone have experience of Eurostar being late into Brussels, and know whether they communicate with ICE to ask them to wait a few mins? The Man In Seat 61 website says they do, but I'd love hear from others here who've had a delay and still caught (or not caught!) an onward ICE connection to Germany.

Thanks!

I've been a bit late once or twice into Paris but never been late into Brussels, but my Brussels trips were before my Paris trips and before the new trains.

I will say that while everybody is heading to the main escalators down into the main concourse, there is signage (I've never followed by the way) to connections. I'm pretty sure that that might help you. You might even be on an adjacent platform through the passageway.

15 minutes should be easily doable (no Customs, no Immigration, just get off and walk). Maybe do a couple of stretches before the train stops?

Good luck. Don't dawdle, don't stop to get chocolate 😉

Single ticket or self connecting?

I agree that it should not be a problem, but your margins are not that great in case the Eurostar is delayed.

Plat 4 to Frankfurt and various connections from there too! Personal experience accounts welcome, thanks!

And already looked at Seat 61, thanks - first place i went - he's great....I'm just just seeking more personal experiences to get the measure of whether Eurostar ever communicates with ICE and whether people on this Forum have been recently delayed into Brussels with Eurostar, and whether they felt comfortable themselves actually doing that transfer. Naturally I've also emailed the two train companies. But of course customer experience is the true measure!

According to the Eurostar website, that train will be at platform 1, 2 or 3. So not far from your departure at platform 4. No one can tell you if you will have a delay or not. It will be on time unless it's not. I wouldn't hold your breath on them holding up an ICE train for a late Eurostar.

Plat 4 to Frankfurt and various connections from there too!

Its that "various connections from there too" that I was wondering about.

I think asking for personal experience with arriving late at Brussels Midi on the Eurostar and connecting to an ICE to Frankfurt, is a pretty narrow universe of experience. And of the few people that have had that experience, what is the chance they are contributors to this Forum? Taking Belgian IC trains to other locations is a non issue, since if you are late, you can always take the next train. So this question applies to people connecting to an ICE, or Thalys, or TGV.

I can add my experience from a couple of years ago, coming from London and changing to a train to Cologne in my case. I wanted a bit of extra margin so instead of booking the ICE that departed a bit after the arrival I booked a later Thalys. The Eurostar was about 20 minutes late to Brussels and those that had planned to take the ICE missed their train.

As a Belgian I can confirm the post above. If anything happens, you'll miss your train. I work in Brussels and I go to work by train and it happens quite often that there is a delay. Additionally, you have to keep into account that the normal IC trains use the same railways in Brussels. So any IC train with a delay can slow down the Eurostar.

If you miss your connection then go to the International ticket office and have your ticket endorsed for travel on the next HST available. That will be a Thalys service to Koeln, but because of an agreement between Thalys/Eurostar and DB you should be accepted on that train.
