Brussels at night in December

I’m thinking of planning two nights in Brussels on the way to my trip to London in early December, just to see the Christmas markets.
As I’ll be alone for this part, but not alone in the UK, I’m wondering how safe it is for a 60’ish female to walk in and around the market in the Grand Place after dark.
I’m also looking at Motel One on Rue Royale for accommodation, so I’d be walking back there after dark too, and to there from Centraal after arriving by train from the airport , around 9pm.
I often travel alone, but have never been to Brussels, and normally in places such as Italy, France, etc, I’m indoors just as dusk falls.
Thanks in advance!

Oh, can anyone definitely confirm that most Belgian Christmas markets begin late November?
Thanks.

Christmas market starts the last week of November. So you'll be fine early December. The Christmas market is located on different squares around the city so you'll have to walk around a bit. But it's gonna be crowded so you don't have to worry, it will be (very) safe. I go there every year and I never had a problem even after midnight. But then again in my opinion Brussels is a lot safer than most people give credit for it.
