Hi, I will likely be flying through Brussels on a return trip home from another country but have decided to stay in Ghent for a layover. Can anyone tell me the easiest way to get from the airport to Ghent? I'm not yet sure what time my flight gets in as I'm in the early stages of planning so I'm not sure whether it will be more challenging if my flight arrives at night. My husband will return home so I, as a solo woman traveler, will be going to Ghent myself.
The best way of getting to Ghent is by train. The airport is on top of a train station, and trains go straight to Ghent from the airport. You do not have to buy tickets in advance as there are no seat reservations and trains never sell out. If one train is full you just catch the next one. At Ghent St.-Pieters you just take your bags and get into a taxi, unless your hotel is near the station. There is also a tram but the area around the station is having a bit of work done to the tram lines so service might be interrupted when you are there.
Have a look at www.belgiantrain.be for timetables (and tickets if you like, it makes no difference if you buy it early). I think trains going to and from the airport also have a supplement ('Diabolo') which you have to pay also, but it's only a minor inconvenience.

That sounds so doable. Thanks for the information.
