Bruges Hotel Recommendations

Hi All,

We (me 33, Mom 62 with a bad knee) will be in Bruges for 3 nights from October 6-9 this year and are looking for suggestions on a hotel please.

We arrive around 5pm via train from CDG, and plan to take the Quasimodo Flanders Fields tour on our third day, so will have 1 full day in Bruges plus two evenings. For that reason, we are looking to maximize our time in the historical center by staying somewhere very central, which we don't usually do.

Im looking for somewhere that's not bare bones, but not necessarily fancy, that's central but also has an easy way to get to/from the train station, in the range of 125 euros a night.

I've read that some areas are car free, so I wasn't sure about the feasibility of getting a taxi? Yes, we can walk, but with luggage on cobblestones and after an already long travel day, we'd like that transition to be easy peasy.

I was looking at Hotel Theatre and Martin's Brugge, but we're not sold on them.

I'd love your own experiences and recommendations please.

Thank you,

PQ

I can recommend the Hotel Duc de Bourgogne (“Duke of Burgundy”). It’s located just a one-minute walk from the Stadhuis and Grote Markt in a historic 1648 building. Set on a canal facing the famous Relais Bourgondisch Cruyce Hotel—seen in the movie “In Bruges”— the included breakfast is in an incredible dining room overlooking the canal.

You will be limited in the properties available if an elevator is a requirement to get to the second or third floors ( what Europeans refer to as the first and second floors). The Hotel Patritius is one property that does have an elevator and is within your budget if you book directly through the Hotel Patritius’ website.

Should the hotel have an elevator?

Are you doing the Quasimodo for on the 9th? I'm booked for that day. I probably can't help with a hotel suggestion, we're staying at the Radisson Blu at the train station. It appears to be about a 20 minute walk into central Bruges. We decided on it because it's handy for multiple day trips we plan on taking and don't mind the walk into the old area. There is a shuttle for about €3 from the train to the edge of the old area.

Hi folks,

I've booked Hotel Theatre, but it's fully refundable if I find something better. I just wanted to get something secured.

Yes, ideally the hotel would have an elevator, but it's not a definite requirement. I can handle her luggage, and then it's just a matter of being able to take her time up the stairs if needed.

We're looking at booking Quasimodo on the 8th so we'll just miss you! We leave for Paris on the 9th.

Thanks again,

PQ

Can anyone confirm if a taxi can get us directly to, or close to Hotel Theatre or if that's a car free zone?

I’d suggest e-mailing the hotel directly with that question.

Thanks Kenko, I don't know why I didn't think of that. It's been quite a week..

I've sent them an email now.

I just spent a week in Bruges with my daughter at Huis t’Schaep. It’s a beautiful BnB that the owner restored and filled with antiques. Service is excellent (go online to see reviews), breakfast is included and delicious, and it is centrally located. Only hitch is that it was 181 euros/night but it might be lower when you visit. We walked to and from the train station and I believe it took us between 10-15 minutes but we are fast walkers. I would think you could easily get a taxi to and from the station from there.

Hotel Theatre has confirmed they are accessible by taxi, so we're sticking with them! Thanks for the feedback, we're very excited for our time in Bruges!

I stayed very near the Hotel Theatre about a week ago. Bus 1 and Bus 2 from the station take different routes (not particularly direct) but both stop near the intersection of Vlamingstraat and Adriaan Willaertstraat. I think the shuttle stops there, too, but I didn't use it. Not walking is a good plan, given the cobblestone situation.

I'd expect th e Hotel Theatre to be relatively quiet.

I found I couldn't count on walking into a restaurant and getting a table for dinner, but I imagine weeknights in October will be different unless you're looking for really special places.
