Bruge to Rome

For our 6th RS tour we chose Best of South Italy and are due in Rome for the intro meeting at 4pm on Monday 8 May, 2017. We are spending three nights in Belgium before the tour in order to see Ghent Altarpiece. We have our flight reservations into Brussels and will "probably" stay in Bruges for our three nights in Belgium.

What is the best way to get from Bruges to Rome in a day?

Thank you for your time and advice. Sally Moxley Richmond

Train to a suitable airport (probably Brussels would be best), then flight to Rome. You can check flight options on skyscanner.com

Looks like you can get there on ryan air for$24 the day before, or less than $50 on brussels airlines mid day may 8

The only way to get from Bruges to Rome in a day is to fly. Take the train to Brussels and fly from there.

There is also a morning flight by Ryanair, arriving in Rome around 12.30.
Make sure you choose Brussel Zaventem (BRU) and Rome Fiumicino (FCO) as airports.

Thank you. All four of you have been helpful and I have book a Brussel airlines flight. You confirmed what I suspected; should fly and not take a train. Which airports to use on both ends.
Your prompt responses kept me going until I had an itinerary code!

Consider staying in Ghent. It's between Bruges and Brussels so easier to day trip to either or both. Rooms in Ghent are cheaper than Bruges and it's less touristy and quite lovely after dark when the Gothic buildings and bridges are floodlit.

Thank you Chani for your suggestion of staying in Gent instead of Bruge. We do not yet have accommodations and will certainly Consider Gent!

Check your itinerary very carefully so you don't wind up many miles from where you expect.

Major airlines use Brussels airport - BRU. Many discount airlines use what they call Brussels South -CRL - which is near Charleroi which is close to the French border and takes some getting to. http://www.charleroi-airport.com/en/acces/shuttle-buses/

Most airlines use FCO in Rome but discount flights often use CIA - G.B. Pastine International Airport in Ciampino.
