Best way to get from car rental drop-off to historical center of Brugges

I plan to drive for the first part of my trip to Belgium so my husband can see various military history sites, but I want to give up the rental car when we get to Bruges and thereafter rely on trains. My reservation for the car has me dropping it off at Bruges Sint Pieters, Sint Pieterskaai 9, Bruges 8000. What is the best way to get from there to the historical center of Bruges? I have not yet chosen a hotel, so I don't have a more precise destination. Google maps says it would take 30 minutes to walk, but we will have 3 suitcases, I expect. This might be doable...but I can't figure out if the route is pedestrian friendly or not. I tried to figure out public transportation on the bus website Rick Steves provides in the guide book (www.delijn.be), but I am not sure if this option is worthwhile; the route planner came up with options where we would still need to walk 12 minutes.

Why don't you drop off your luggage at the hotel first then drop off the rental car? And/or perhaps a taxi from the drop-off site back to your hotel (which seems easiest to me)? There is Brugge Sint-Pieters station nearby but still quite a walk. At least you don't have to do it with bags!

Just take a taxi from the train station. They are readily available. There's definitely no way you going to want to be walking.
