Belgium Rail strike

Hi all

There is a rail strike proposed on April 8 2025 in Belgium . I would need to travel from Brussels airport to Ghent on April 8.
Should a strike be confirmed, will there be no trains running or are there a reduced number of trains running on Tuesday?

Is it advisable to look at booking a taxi in advance as an alternate to reach Ghent?

thank you in advance

There will often be trains running during the strikes. You can check on the SNCB website 48 hours before to see which services will be running, as strikers have to declare themselves 72 hours beforehand. I would try to avoid taking a taxi to Ghent, it is quite a distance from the airport. Instead you might look at the bus company Flibco, as they have a service between Brussels airport and Ghent.

we took a train from brussels midi to Ghent Monday when a strike was going on.  The app stated that the trains listed for monday we confirmed to run.   From the train station, we opted for taxi, only €10.50

Like the above post, I was in Belgium this past weekend when there was a strike, there will be trains on all routes, just a reduced schedule, and it is possible that specific trains will be "cancelled" on short notice. For example, the schedule showed the Intercity Direct train running from Antwerp to Amsterdam, but it was marked "Niet Ridjen" shortly before it was due to leave.

Since trains are all essentially regional transport, you buy a ticket for the route, and can take any train (except Eurostar) that is running on that route. The trip to Ghent is most likely a train to Brussels Midi, then change to a train to Ghent. There are a few trains that would require no change, but much more flexible and more options if you do change at Midi.
