I'm looking for a b&b or small hotel in or near Bruges. I really like staying in places that have character and charm. It must have parking as we will have a rental car. Recommendations please!

The problem is the parking. I can think of three that we love in Brugge but all of them suggest to park in one of the underground car parks.

Yes, that is what we're running into. We may have to stay a little outside Bruges to accomodate the parking.

I am not Nigel, but we had an excellent stay this month at t'Geerwijn (geerwijn.be, recommended in the Amsterdam/Bruge etc guide)

Not a B&B but you may want to take a look at Hotel Egmond which claims to have free parking. It is located in a quiet area near Minnewater and the Beguinage (a convent) and has charm and character. I totally agree with you about the charm and character--makes your visit really special.

There are a few B&B´s on the scenic countryside close to the canal to Damme north-east of Bruges. Being quite familiar with the area but also have to say no personal experience with staying there I think places like Hoeve de Steenoven, Wilgenhof and Pure B&B are anyway nicely located and worth to consider. The first one is a bit close located along the road, maybe a risk of experiencing road noise. In charming Oostkerke is little hotel Het Oud Gemeentehuis, lovely road leading to Damme and Bruges. Parking the car is there no problem and you will have quite easily access to main roads.
In Bruges you can park the car in the big parking lot just next the main railway station for €3.50 / 24h
