How easy is it to travel on train to bruge from Amsterdam?
It's easy you can search the schedule and book your preferred train ticket at https://www.ns.nl/en if you are not driving
We did it once and without checking schedule I think we changed trains in Antwerp. Easy to do and cheap.
We found the Belgium trains tend to run a bit late, so if you have a tight connection with a Eurostar train, ( which sell out), adjust accordingly.
Have a great trip!
I think it is easy, but some may be confused.
There are two basic ways to go...
You could take the Eurostar (fast) train to Brussels, then switch to a Belgian train to Bruges, likely a direct train, maybe a change in Ghent. Eurostar would be faster, maybe, but not by much, maybe save 20 minutes or so. You would need to buy tickets for the Eurostar leg well ahead, or pay much more.
The other option would be to use intercity trains. The advantage is you can buy about any time with no price difference, and you can take any trains that day, going in the direction of Bruges, even stopping in Belgium along the way to visit a city. Routing will vary, you might change in Brussels, you might go Amsterdam, Antwerp, Ghent, Bruges.
For tickets, look at NS International https://www.nsinternational.com/en
Last May I took the non-Eurostar train, can’t remember what is was called. The train stopped in Antwerp, which is suppose to be beautiful. However, I had just arrived in AMS from US, and went by train directly to Brugge via Antwerp and was too tired to explore. Another thing to know about Belgium trains if you are a senior, is you can buy a ticket for $8.50 and go round trip to any city in Belgium in a day. I bought one for a RT day trip from Brugge to Ghent. If you are just going one way it is still $8.50. You can read about this on the Belgium train site.
I meant to say the train station in Antwerp is beautiful, I can’t speak to the town/city.
thanks all, I ended up buying a eurostar ticket from Amsterdam to Brussels Midi/Zuid and now just need a ticket from Brussels Midi/Zuid to Brugge which i see I can buy online and take any train the day I book at ticket through https://www.belgiantrain.be/en so I hope this works ok, if anyone else has done it this way can you let me know as I will need to do the same going back the Brussels to go to London a few days later.
