Going to be staying in Brussles in June, is a rail trip to Amsterdam for just the day possible? Does anyone know when the trains shut down for the night?
Yes, a day trip is possible. it takes about 1 hour 50 minutes each way. There is one train per hour. You can look up the times on www.bahn.de
The last trains back from Amsterdam to Brussels midi are:
- Depart Amsterdam Centraal 19:17, arrive Bruxelles-Midi 21:08
- Depart Amsterdam Centraal 20:17, arrive Bruxelles-Midi 22:08
- Depart Amsterdam Centraal 20:52, arrive Bruxelles-Midi 00:15 (slower train making extra stops)
Followed by:
- Depart Amsterdam Centraal 06:17, arrive Bruxelles-Midi 08:08
To find prices and book tickets for these trains, use the Belgian Rail site: https://www.b-europe.com/Travel/Booking/Tickets
If you can book in advance, you'll save a lot of money. I see that last minute tickets on the fast Thalys trains are about €80 each way, while advance purchase tickets are €29 for "non-flex" and €45 for "semi-flex." The slower trains don't go up in price and are €42 each way, but these take about 3 hours and 20 minutes, and so aren't great for a day trip. Thalys tickets go on sale 3 months prior to travel dates.
