Amsterdam cruise port

HI
My husband and I are thinking of going to Ghent and doing a few day trips and then making our way to the Amsterdam cruise port in mid July. How easy is the train from Ghent to Amsterdam cruise port? How long does it take? Do you think if we left early in the morning on the day of departure of the ship from Ghent that would be fine?
Thank you for your input

Just under 3 hours. Ghent to Brussels Midi, then Thalys high speed to Amsterdam Centraal.
Leave Ghent 0700, arr AMS 0944 then hourly except 0900.
It's a 10 minute walk round the corner to the cruise port over the tram bridge or a tram which stops straight outside.
Double check as some cruise companies say Amsterdam but actually mean Ijmuiden, which is the other end of the North Sea Canal.
Ijmuiden avoids lock fees and the Amsterdam Tourist Tax!
Ijmuiden is a long bus ride out of AMS, no train.

I personally wouldn't risk it. We always want to be in our city of departure the night before a flight we can't afford to miss. In your case, I'd want to be in Amsterdam for a ship you can't afford to miss. Transport snags, such as rail strikes, are not unknown. Faced with one, I'd rather be closer to my point of departure, with more options to get from point A to B, than not.

Hi Kathy,
So right you are. I was thinking we should get there the night before. Seems like an easy ride however
