Amsterdam and Bruges 4 days

My husband and I are planning a quick 4 day trip to Amsterdam and Bruges before meeting friends in Florence. I'm contemplating the itinerary below. I know it's quick but we want to try and fit it in. We like food and culture, strolling, perhaps some museums but not they are not a focus. Advice appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Oct. 5 Arrive Amsterdam from US at 9am, explore Amsterdam
Oct. 6 Explore Amsterdam
Oct. 7 Morning train to Bruges (@3 1/2hrs), explore Bruges
Oct. 8 Explore Bruges
Oct. 9 Fly to Florence from Bruges

Where are you flying to Florence from? What time do you fly out?

I've visited both cities a number of times. I am a museum person so I would have a different focus from you but it still seems like you are really shortchanging Amsterdam. You can probably do Bruges in 1.5 days especially if you are not particularly interested in the museums they have to offer.

Thanks for your reply. There is a nonstop flight to Florence from Bruges arriving before noon.

I’m sorry to say, but this can’t be right. There is no airport anywhere near Bruges. The only airports in Belgium with direct flights to Florence are Brussels Airport and Brussels-Charleroi Airport.

I agree with Pam, you’re really shortchanging Amsterdam and spending too much time in Bruges.

There is a small airport in Ostend, it's nearby Bruges. But I don't know if Florence is one of their destinations. Anyway, you'll have to cut short on Amsterdam which is a pity in my opinion.

The only flights from Oostende Airport are holiday charter flights with TUI Fly to holiday destinations like Alicante, Ibiza, Crete etc. There are no flights to Florence from Oostende Airport.

Thanks everyone. On a second look google flight search auto populated the field w Brussels instead of Bruges for the search result. I thought the direct flight to Florence was too good to be true and it is. I'll reconsider this plan!

Why not start with Venice and Bologna? You are deceiving yourself to think you can see Amsterdam in 1.5 days. How is your Jet Lag experience? Month of the year?

Or if you insist on overdoing it, Milan and Venice. The Last Supper is as "prestigious" a visit as Bruges. Four days in Venice is pretty darn good.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I realize that trying to squeeze in Belgium is not wise. We will plan to spend all 4 nights in the Netherlands. I've go to get to work on that itinerary!
