Hello, my husband and I are planning a trip to Brussels this May for about 13 days. We have not booked a hotel yet but want to know how do we get to the hotel from the airport. I read somewhere in the Belgian tourist info that from the airport you can take the train to the central station but the problem will be from central station to hotel. Are the trains in Belgium similar to that in Germany? We also plan to go to Brugge and stay there for 2 nights and stop by Ghent on the way back to Brussels. Are there lockers in Ghent train station? Thank you.
Where is your hotel?
Not sure how the trains would be different than German ones. Running on 2 rails, painted different colors.
Ghent Sint Pieters shows luggage lockers.
It is fairly simple. You take the train to the central station and walk if close or take a taxi if further. Or take a taxi direct from the airport. No different than any other airport to city center. I think I might be missing something in your question.
The trains are easy to use to get to at the airport. Follow the signs and go down a couple floors. Train tickets can be purchased from a machine or from the manned desk. If I remember correctly, there are lockers at the Ghent-st. Peter’s station (the one you’d go through coming from Bruges) right by the station’s information center. To get to historic Ghent, we took the number 1 tram and got off at Gravensteen Castle. In Brussels, or hotel was a five minutes walk from the train station near the Gran Place.
milesesc, can you confirm you are talking about Brussels Airport (aka Brussels-National, BRU) to Brussels?
If so, easy, regular trains to all three central Brussels stations (north, central and south), plus other locations in Belgium.
Or, are you talking about Brussels South Charleroi Airport (CRL), which is a lot further from Brussels? This airport only has bus access.
My apologies for a delayed response but have been extremely busy at work. Had change of plans so we are now going to Sweden instead.
Thanks to all who responded. Much appreciated.
