A deep dive into Wallonia?

As part of a larger Belgium and Holland trip in the fall, I'm finding myself drawn towards spending a week in Wallonia. I know it isn't as pretty as Bruges or Ghent, and some might consider the region a bit "rough around the edges." But I'm also drawn to the beer heritage, the food (lots of Michelin Guide representation), picturesque rivers, and some interesting towns for history lovers, like Dinant, Mons, and Namur.

FYI, on previous trips we have visited Brussels, as well as Ghent, Bruges, Kortrijk, and Tournai. So, my question: Given that we have "checked off" a few of the major, obvious locales in Belgium, am I crazy considering a week in Wallonia? And bonus question -- I've already discovered that a lot of interesting places aren't on rail lines. Does being car-less change your answer at all?

"...am I crazy considering a week in Wallonia?"

Not at all. If I had a week and were motorised, I would do likewise.

If you want more to explore towns like Mons, Dinant, Namur, all battle sites in 1914, I suggest these all famous battle sites and French victories in the 18th century (all in Wallonia) : Fleurus, Jemappes, and Fontenoy.

The painting of the Fontenoy battle is among those displayed in the Battle Galerie in the Chateau de Versailles.

No car? Then inquire in the Tourist Office in the next largest town to arrange a taxi to go out there. I did that in Albert/Somme to get out to Fricourt.
