7hr Brussels layover, time to sightsee?

We are flying from Palermo to Copenhagen in July and have the option of a 4 or 7 hour layover. If we take the train into town, what ideas do you have to poke around town, or is that just not long enough? Not interested in museums, walking tours etc are of interest so we can just get a quick flavor of the area.

Also, are there lockers at the airport to stow our carry ons? Thanks, World Travelers, for your help!

With a few hours at your disposal, you have time to have a walk in the area around the Royal Palace, enjoy a coffee or a beer at the Grand'Place, to look out for the famous Manneken Pis, and maybe to venture a little bit further around the Saint Catherine church, before taking the train back to the airport.

Thank you both! I am going to book a chocolate tour, sounds like a great way to kill a few hours!

I do not know when you are going to Brussels. However since what happened lately at Brussels, Brussels airport has reopened but checks by police and army can be long.
So do not make any decisive plans yet and ask when arriving in Brussels how long about the checks should take ( if you get out the airport and come back) and add 1 hour to be on the safe side if you do not come from a Schengen State.

It will take months for BRU to get back to 100% of their old capacity. And you can assume security screenings will be tighter than they were before. Don't count on making good use of the 7 hours.

All the walkable sights are around Centraal station, which will also have additional security. It's true that Grand Place is only 3 minutes from Centraal, but I wouldn't count on making use of this layover.

Edit: Make sure you're not on a bargain airline that flies to Charleroi airport instead of BRU!

Figures. Flight is already booked, chocolate tour paid for. Looks like I should cancel the tour, wish I would have opted for the short layover now! Hindsight...

I understand the railway station at Zaventem airport is not operational as a result of the tragic events last month. There will undoubtedly be another link to centre.
There might be delays because of understandably intensified security checks before entering the airport buildings.
