6 nights in Belgium

We have 6 nights in Belgium the beginning of April. We arrive by train at 6pm in Brussels and depart 6 days later around 10;25

Thinking 3 nights in Ghent, 3 in Bruge. My husband is really into beer, and Flanders field looks interesting

Is Brussels worth a day? If we want to see Brussels we could do as a day trip.

How would you suggest we divide up our nights and itinerary?

Is Antwerp worth a visit by train for the day?

We just added Belgium to our six week trip, so haven’t fully researched yet. Looking forward to suggestions. We were supposed to visit in 2020, but of course Covid cancelled.

Brussels is worth a day to look around. Worth a bit more if you are into beer, or if you have a good interest in one of the very good, but somewhat niche museums (Comics, Rene Magritte, military history, Flemish art, Autoworld, trains, musical instruments, etc.)

I like to spend an afternoon there, but not much more.

You can look, there are several hotels right near Midi (an Ibis, a Novatel, a Radisson flagged one) that should be fine for a night, but the area right around the station is not spectacular.

The balance of Ghent 3 nights and Bruges 2 is fine, I think Ghent the more interesting. Antwerp well worth the time, not many "must see" sights, but it is a lovely working city, sort of what people hope Brussels will be like. I would say go if you have time, but unless you have a goal of seeing or doing something specific, your time is best spent in the three cities you have picked.

Thanks Paul, just realized our train out of Brussels is at 10:25, not 8, so we can take train to Brussels that morning
