4 nights to fill before meeting up with tour in Bruges

My husband and I are arriving in Brussels late afternoon on May 8th, and trying to decide if we should stay there one night or skip Brussels all together. If we skip Brussels we then have three nights (too many?) in Antwerp instead of two. Planning one night in Ghent before meeting up with a travel group in Bruges on May 12th. So basically we have 4 nights to plan before arriving in Bruges on the 12th. We have only been to Bruges before so not familiar with other places in Belgium and loved explore. Any advice welcome as we can make changes to our itinerary until meeting up in Bruges.

Brussels is worth at least one night, and part of the next day, so if you’ve never been, include it and don’t skip it entirely. On my last trip, I stayed in Gent/Ghent/Gand, and for a future trip to Belgium, that’s where I’d go, so you’ll appreciate having at least the one night you’re already planning there. If you’re not averse to one-night stays, and it appears that you’re not, at least one night in both Brussels and Gent will be rewarding.

It would help to know where your tour is going so as not to recommend something you're already planning to see. That being said, I really like the Atlantikwall Museum near Ostend. We did it as a day trip from Bruges, but DeHaan is a quaint beach town that looks like a nice place to stay (probably expensive). That whole area is served by the Coast Tram.

Cyn, Thank you for your very helpful information!

G3rry, Once in Bruges we have three nights there before we leave for Germany. The Bruges time is not structured so we are free to choose what we want to do and see. Thanks for your ideas - I will look into them.
