3 days in Belgium

Hello
We will be travelling to Amsterdam/Belgium for a total of 7 days on the ground.
We will be flying into amsterdam on Aug 6, travelling to Brussels that afternoon, we land around 1130 am.
I hope to spend 3 days in Brussels, with day trips to Ghent and Dinant and one day in brussels. I am reading neighbourhoods and get a sense that areas around the Brussel station seems to be the best? Please let me know your suggestions of the safe places and itineraries. We enjoy museums, small towns and shopping. I plan to go to the grand palace/atomic in brussels.

TIA

Areas around Bruxelles-Central station are the best, not near Bruxelles-Midi, which is the main train station, but in a very depressed area. Anywhere near Central and the Grand' Place are safe and close to what you want to see.

If you want to shop in Brussels, the Rue Neuve in the centre is a shopping street, but if you want to go further afield, the Avenue Louise (Louise metro), Chaussée d'Ixelles (Porte de Namur metro) and Woluwe Shopping centre (Roodebeek metro) are all good for shopping.
