Restaurant Diligence in Bruges

Highly recommend eating at Restaurant Diligence if you're ever in Bruges, Belgium. But make a reservation! I had read Rick's review in the guidebook and was able to make a reservation 3 weeks in advance. Reservations can be made online. The place is popular and while we were there we saw countless groups turned away because the restaurant was full. It's a small place but very cozy. The food is spectacular. I had the beef stew (probably the best I've ever eaten) and my husband had the salmon. The service was friendly and we didn't wait long for our meals. Consider eating there. You won't be disappointed.

Thanks for the recommendation! Regarding that stew, I'm not usually much of a beef eater but fell hopelessly in love with Carbonnade Flamande on our trip to Belgium. Didn't have it in Bruges though so will make a note of Restaurant Diligence for (hopefully) a return visit!

I certainly don’t want to spoil the fun… but it’s quite amusing to see how the ‘tourist trap’ Diligence works.
You won’t find too many local customers there, but mainly ‘Rick Steves’ fans and those drawn by the scene from the film ‘In Bruges’ that was filmed there.

For local customers, it remains the establishment that received an unfavourable rating in an official hygiene inspection, although this must be immediately qualified by the fact that they took immediate steps to improve. But overall, it remains ‘merely’ a GOOD result, whilst there are so many establishments with an even higher score https://fhr.favv-afsca.be/

Windyram, it worked for the OP for the reasons they've posted. What matters is their personal experience, which they've generously shared with the rest of us. They had a lovely experience. It may not be the best choice for all but it was for them and that's what matters.
