Fantastic B&B in Bruges, Restaurant and a couple other favorites!

We absolutely LOVED staying with CanalDeluxe B&B in Bruges! The location is wonderful, a 3 - 5 minute walk from the market on a quiet, charming lane. Luke and Tine, the owners, could not be more lovely, communication was great and absolutely everything about our stay with them was wonderful. The room (from the 1600's) we stayed in had once been where the horses were kept and had a high vaulted ceiling, chandelier, a fireplace (which we used), it overlooked a canal, as well as a private garden. The room was immaculate, gorgeously decorated, the bathroom huge and modern and breakfasts were truly fantastic! We spent 3 nights here and would do so again in a heartbeat!! This place is special and was a highlight of our trip. (We took a day trip to Ghent and it was an easy, beautiful 15 min walk to the train station in Bruges, in the morning.)

Our favorite place for dinner in Bruges was Diligence! The Flemish Stew and dark beer were outstanding. Two of the nights we were in Bruges, were a Monday and Tuesday, when many restaurants are closed - so if you're there on those days, it's worth doing a little research ahead of time to know what's open.

We did our own little chocolate tour, which was basically us stopping in lots of different shops and trying a few pieces here and there. Dumon was our favorite!...and I now know why Belgium chocolate has the reputation it does!

Our favorite waffle place, was Laurence.

Thank you to this group for sharing insights and feedback, it's always helpful, so appreciated and helped shape our trip. Dankjewel!

Rebecca,
I'm so happy to read this review and suggestions about Bruges! My husband and I are with the RS Belgium/ Holland tour this April 2026. Bruges is one the stops. I love having places to look for that others on these forums thought worth mentioning!

We'll be there on a Wed, Thurs & Fri
I'm happy to hear anything else you'd like to share about your time in Belgium :)

I will second Rebecca's review of Canal Deluxe B&B. We had a lower room right on the canal--large, comfy bed, huge bathroom with a separate shower and tub. And the breakfasts--wow! So much to choose from, even without the lactose-free items they bought for me I could have had more to eat than I could possibly hold. I highly recommend it, and we will certainly go back if we are able to get to Bruges again.

Mitzi, you're going to really enjoy Belgium and LOVE Bruges!

I'm so glad you'll be there for a handful of days! Many people do Bruges as a day trip, which is fine, but when the day trippers leave, the town is quiet and extra magical! And even though we spent 3 nights there, we could easily have spent more time.

My husband and i did the Bruges walking route suggested in RS's book. It's a great way to explore Bruges and then you can expand from there. I would have liked to visit the lace museum and we also wanted to rent bikes and ride to the little town of Damme, but the morning we were going to go, it got too windy and rained a bit.

Might I suggest, learning a couple basic Dutch phrases. Most everyone speaks English, but even learning 'please', 'thank you' and 'good morning', etc. truly seemed appreciated...and it's fun.

I'm excited you have this trip coming up, Belgium is special!! AND if you're getting to spend time in Amsterdam, you'll love that too! We spent 3 days there after our time in Bruges and had an amazing time. Hope this helps.

Thank you, Leslie and Rebecca :)

Rebecca,
Yes, we'll also be in Amsterdam, but only 2 nights where the tour ends. My husband and I have decided to spend 2 extra nights in Haarlem. I've always been impacted by Corrie Ten Boom and her life story. Just getting these airline tix worked out is the only hiccup we've run across so far. As I'm sure every north American knows, it's the airfare that is the most incredibly expensive part of the European journey. Moving our trip for even just a day or 2 makes a difference in price but I like our schedule the way we've planned it and staying extra isn't an option with our jobs. Anyway, that's off topic! haha!

If you have anymore to share about Belgium or Holland, let me know :) We're also staying in Rotterdam, Ghent and Hoorn.

Leslie and Rebecca - would you mind telling me in which suite you stayed at the B&B ?
It is possible that we could arrive early before our tour begins in Ghent and potentially get to Dunkirk whilst staying in Bruges as my husband is very interested in WW2 history.

Thank you,
~Mitzi
