I am spending 2 nights in Antwerp before boarding a barge tour to Amsterdam in April. Planning to take a train direct from CDG to Antwerp so I might want to stay near Antwerp Central if that area is OK. Also that would be convenient for a day trip to Lier.
We stayed at the Park Inn across the plaza from the train station and it was clean, comfortable and convenient. The area was fine and the train station is beautiful.
Because Lier is not quite a full day, you might combine it with Turnhout, which has a sweet little Beguinage with a small museum, and a famous playing card museum. Superb wood carvings in the cathedral. Historic Lier is about 1/3 mile from their train station. Shorter distances to walk in Turnhout. Lier town art museum was small but nice.
It's expensive, but the Hilton is a better location to visit Antwerp itself. I don't find the train station area scary.
