Zurich to Munich

After a week of travel in Switzerland we have 6 nights to plan between Zurich and Munich after New Year's Eve. I was thinking maybe Innsbruck for 3 nights and Munich for 3 nights. Any comments or suggestions would be welcome. We will be taking the train and flying out of Munich. Thank you in advance.

I would only stay one night in Innsbruck. I would add Luzern and/or Salzburg and/or Garmisch-Partenkirchen. I really liked Luzern, taking a lake cruise and the cog railway to the top of Mt. Pilatus.

I like Phillip's suggestion of smaller cities, in preference to Innsbruck, which is a city that Rick didn't even bother to cover for many years (but does now).

I think Philip's suggestion is great. You might want to consider Mittenwald (instead of Garmisch) or Lindau, too.

Thank you for your input. We are already planning to stay in Luzern for 2 nights before Zurich so I will be looking into the smaller towns that you recommend along the train route Zurich to Munich: Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Mittenwald and Lindau. I am also interested in Salzburg, as suggested, but was hoping to find something not as far out of the way. If you think it would be worth the extra travel, let me know.
Thank you.

The fact Rick Steves didn't cover Innsbruck doesn't mean it's not worth visiting. By that logic, RS doesn't cover the Zillertal, the Oetztal, etc., so they must not be worth seeing. We actually love the Innsbruck area. Mittenwald is another favorite. Salzburg is certainly worth a day and a night if you can manage.

I don't care if Rick covers Innsbruck or not, I've been there, and I don't think it's worth going back.

The shortest route to Munich goes through Lindau. It's rather expensive for overnight, but worth a day's stop. If you go from there to Kempten, you can take the Aßerfernbahn through the Tirol to Garmisch-Partenkirchen (I would suggest overnight in Pfronten on the way. From Garmisch, take a side trip to Mittenwald or Oberammergau (Linderhof). There is a bus from Garmisch Bhf to Kochel, a very scenic route via Walchensee and a train from Kochel into Munich.

In stead of taking the train around the east end of Bodensee (Bregenz), you could go to Romanshorn and take the ferry across Bodensee to Friedrichshafen, then the train along Bodensee to Lindau.

OK. There are so many options and I appreciate everyones input!!!

If Lindau and Mittenwald look good to me, tell me if this is an ok itinerary: (we are traveling by train)

Zurich - Lindau : 2.5 hours (4 trains) 2 nights
Lindau - Mittenwald: 4.5 hours (3 trains) 2 nights
Mittenwald - Munich: 2 hours (1 train) 2 nights
