Zugspitze Cable Car from Ehrwald: Help:

We are staying in Ehrwald for 3 nights, depending on how early we arrive from Innsbruck. We were hoping to catch the cable car up to the Zugspitze. The second day will be spent visiting Neuschwanstein Castle. Seeing we have to be back in Innsbruck on the 3rd day to drop off car and catch train to Verona. Is it possible to do the Zugspitze on the 3rd morning, knowing we have to be back in Innsbruck. Or do we need to arrive early on the 1st day We will be in Ehrwald from the 15th thru 17th October.

Don't see why not, but you don't say what time your train is to Verona and where you have to turn the car in relative to Innsbruck Hbf.

There are direct trains to Verona from Innsbruck at 1:24 pm, 3:24 pm, and 5:24 pm, It takes 3 1/2 hours. Figure 1 1/2 hours from Ehrwald to Innsbruck, and an hour to turn in the car and get to the station.

One thing for sure, you want to do this on a nice day, so do it at first opportunity. If you leave it for the last day and turns out to be rotten weather, you will have wasted your chance.

Thanks for that info Sam
Should we catch a break on the day of arrival, and arrive at 11am, then book into accommodation . if we get to cable car by 12pm Will that give us enough time to catch it up the mountain and return, without rushing too much.

It should take only about 15 to 20 minutes to ride up. I am thinking 4 hours up there would be plenty.

Four hours is more than plenty, and the ride is far cheaper from the Ehrwald side (at least it was when I went). You have to touch the summit cross, by way of a couple of small ladders, to claim you have really 'scaled' the Zugspitze.
There is a restaurant on top, and a nice restaurant patio at a resort at the bottom end.

Hi,

We thought about 2 hours was plenty at the top. Don't worry. First day it's clear, go for it.

The most important thing is a clear day, otherwise you won't see anything.
